Welcome to an exclusive interview with award-winning producer, singer and songwriter, Ramoni! In a fun, joyride interview, we had the opportunity to explore Ramoni’s creative process, his work with different professionals across the industry, and what he hopes to achieve as he carves out his own path in the industry — leaving a trail of visionary innovation on his journey.
So basically: We’re really happy to have you here, let’s dive right in. What would you do if you weren’t making music?
Ramoni: if I wasn’t making music, honestly, I’d be playing football. I’d be out there on the streets playing soccer and scoring some serious goals
Sobasically: That sounds really exciting! Just like music, football requires lots of dedication and creativity. Speaking of creativity, who is the dream artist you’ve worked with?
Ramoni: If I wasn’t making music, honestly, I’d be playing football. I’d be out there on the streets playing soccer and scoring some serious goals and earning mad racks.
So basically: That sounds really exciting! Just like music, football requires lots of dedication and creativity. Speaking of creativity, who is the dream artist you’ve worked with?
Ramoni: Oh, Wizkid, from the beginning, I have always wanted to work with him, you see, for me it was more than just working with him, the idea of just being in his space just felt so organic to me. We’ve been around each other since 2019, but we didn’t even get to work together in the studio until around last year. We were just in the studio one day and he was like “Yo!” so when it finally happened, it felt completely natural.
So basically: That sounds like a wonderful experience. How was it like coming up with 9 to 5 and preparing for a live show with wizkid?
Ramoni: It was great! We were preparing for the Tottenham Stadium show, rehearsing for this particular song to play live. We had background vocals by Teni, Masktunes was also there, the arrangement for the song was created on the spot by The Cavemen, Benjamin and Kingsley, amazing guys. It was an exciting and spontaneous moment for me. So that’s how “9-5” came about — just by being in the same creative space with Wizkid. It felt like I was truly part of that creative world, learning from him and experiencing the magic firsthand.
So basically: Wow, that sounds like a great experience, so tell us, what was the first song you made with Blaqbonez?
Ramoni: The first song I ever made with Blaqbonez is probably unreleased. But the first songs that were released on the platform Boomplay was “Facebook and snapchat” featuring Blaqbonez, alongside artists Chike, AQ and Loose Kaynon. Safe to say that was my first song with Blaqbonez. One of our notable songs together was “Loyalty”, off of “Young Preacher”, it was a pretty defining song for that project, because it was a project that was really all about sampling and retouching old songs. It was a pretty nostalgic process. I’m not Gen Z, but I appreciate both the old and new era of songs.
So basically: Does working with bigger artists feel different?
Ramoni: Not really, to me music is music, I don’t put levels with who I work or collaborate with. In the music world, everyone is the same to me. The younger generation could be on a different vibe than the older generation. Regardless, age doesn’t matter to me, and I also don’t see anyone as a superstar who deserves special treatment. It’s all about the music and the vibe.
